What is Outsourcing?
Do you remember where we hear most about the word Outsourcing? Yes you are right; it’s either on news channels or in some newsprint. Do we ever try to understand what this word actually means? We indeed have some kind of understanding what this words means and for everybody’s sake i will state the definition of Outsourcing-“Outsourcing is subcontracting a service, such as product design or manufacturing, to a third-party company”.
It won’t be an exaggeration to say that Outsourcing existed from the day man started living in a Society. In easy words, Outsourcing means to delegate some part of your job to a person who can do it in a way you would like it. It can be either a big US based company outsourcing its IT development job to some IT Service providing company in India or it can be you outsourcing your house gardening job to a Gardner.
Let’s take an example of McDonalds. It won’t be wrong to say that McD as a corporation which is running so successfully because many families have outsourced their lunches, dinners or snacks to them. We know that McD can do the job of cooking our food quite well and we like it therefore sometimes we outsource few of our lunches and dinners. It costs more to eat at McD than to prepare food at our home, then why do we even go to McD. The reason is simple easy to get and tasty food at McD.
Let’s take another household example. We all usually keep “Bais or Kammwalis”- A person who everyday comes to clean our houses. This is a type of outsourcing, remember the definition of Outsourcing? You are sub contracting your household job to a person who would provide the services in return of some monetary benefits. These types of Outsourcing have been happening all over the world for thousands of years now. And this will go on till the mankind exist.
Recently you must have heard a lot about US/UK is planning to curb on outsourcing their jobs to India and much of Indian economy might be impacted. I think rather it would impact more to them than to India.
Why do anybody outsource-think why would you ask your Bai/Kaamwali to do cleaning of your house? Either you don’t have time to do that or you have other important things to do or its less expensive to get it done from somebody else or you just don’t have the required skills. Will there be a situation where in you will stop outsourcing your all household stuffs and start doing them by yourself? I would say it’s possible but not beneficial to you first than to others.
Therefore whenever we have fears that outsourcing from Western Countries to India will stop or reduce, remember that it’s less likely to happen. But isn’t it sounds as if we Indians are like Bais/Kaamwalis for Western world? The answer to this is-no we are not. We are living in a world which is called as a global village. Where when somebody outsource something then at the same time it does the job for somebody else.
Outsourcing is here to remain and we need not worry about losing our economic growth on account that Western country might stop outsourcing as there is very less chances of it.
