Is your startup an IT or an educational or a financial start up? What category do you put your startup into? In this post i am trying to analyse if today’s startup’s can actually call themseleves as one specific category or not. Once you know the categorisation concept then you would be able to appreciate things in much better way.
We will take example of GoByRoad.com startup. This is an Online Travel related company which currently caters for Online Cab booking in Pune. Therefore can we safely say that this a Travel Category startup? But this startup is hugely dependent on its IT team to deliver new products and offerings which Sales guys come up with. So is this an IT related company? No not really.Then what category should we put this startup into?
The point which I am trying to make here is these days when some startup says that we are X category or Y category company then they should rethink. As your own categorization will have an impact on your brand and image in the market.
